WARWICK GROUP SECURES $22.5 MILLION FOR WATER PROJECTS IN THE FY ‘21 CORPS WORK PLAN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C., January 19, 2021 -- Warwick Group Consultants, the nation’s leading coastal advocacy firm, has secured $22.5 million for federal water projects in the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) FY21 Work Plan. This funding will benefit projects in California and Massachusetts including:
· $1,500,000 for the City of Solana Beach, CA to complete the Preconstruction Engineering and Design phase
· $14,000,000 for the dredging of the Portsmouth Harbor and beneficial use of dredged material to be placed nearshore to Plum Island, MA
· $7,000,000 to dredge the Merrimack River on behalf of the Plum Island Foundation, MA
This critical funding will allow the City of Solana Beach to continue the Preconstruction Engineering and Design phase (PED) prior to the initial construction of its beach nourishment project. The purpose of these projects is to widen their beaches to protect crumbling coastal bluffs, mitigate coastal storm erosion, and protect life, property, and critical infrastructure.
Funding for Portsmouth Harbor will provide the federal share of $21 million for dredging of the federal navigation channel and nearshore placement of material. This critical investment is a pilot project that will help address the severe shoreline erosion experienced on Plum Island.
Founded in 1986, Warwick Group Consultants is the nation’s leading coastal advocacy firm, helping coastal communities and nonprofit organizations secure federal policies and funding to address erosion, sea level rise, and climate change
