WARWICK GROUP LANDS SIGNIFICANT WINS IN WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT ‘20
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C., December 27, 2020 -- Warwick Group Consultants, the nation’s leading coastal advocacy firm, has achieved multiple legislative victories for clients and coastal communities in the biennial Water Resources Development Act of 2020 (WRDA). The firm was successful in getting critical legislative language and authorizations included in this WRDA reauthorization including:
· Securing language that encourages the beneficial use of sediment over the least-cost alternative, if the dredged material can provide immediate measurable outcomes
· Authorizing a holistic watershed management study on behalf of the Plum Island Foundation for Newburyport and Plum Island, MA
These are key legislative victories that will support communities not just in Massachusetts but across the country. Securing language encouraging beneficial use of dredged material will ease the financial burden on coastal communities adjacent to federal navigation channels seeking immediate relief from coastal erosion.
In Massachusetts, Newburyport and the Plum Island Foundation will benefit greatly from the section 201 authorization in WRDA ‘20. Section 729 allows 27 communities, including Newburyport and Plum Island, to engage with USACE in conducting a feasibility study addressing their coastal storm risk management needs.
Founded in 1986, Warwick Group Consultants is the nation’s leading coastal advocacy firm, helping coastal communities and nonprofit organizations secure federal policies and funding to address erosion, sea level rise, and climate change.
